#74 "attend the Charleston library sale and build my classroom library"

EDIT: since I got my teaching job (YAY!) I have edited this goal to the Berkeley County library sale :)

I went there this morning with $75 in cash, planning to spend every single bit of that on books for my new classroom.  I was the second person in line, carrying my giant LL Bean tote bag ready to be filled. It felt almost as exciting as a Black Friday sale, and as soon as they opened the door I pounced and started snatching every children's book I could see and throwing it into my bag. When the bag AND my arms were totally full, I reluctantly approached the checkout counter and presented my books...the grand total came to $11.00.  I was so excited by this, I put the books in the car and went back again....That time, the total was $6.75.  Bringing my total for the morning to $17.75 for EIGHTY books.  I am so excited and can't wait to share them with my kiddos on Monday!

#13 "get a "real" full-time teaching job"

The cashier at Wal-Mart tonight asked me if I was a mom or a teacher due to my massive amounts of paper, art supplies, and candy. Guess what I got to say????? TEACHER!!!! I am the newest third grade teacher at Cane Bay Elementary! I am so excited to spend the rest of the year with a wonderful group of students that I have grown to love since I've been subbing off and on in their room since February.  So while it's not exactly a guarantee that I'll have a job in the fall, it gets me one step closer, and since I have my very own box with my name on it, I will consider this goal completed, at least for now!

#4 "electronically balance my checkbook"

Probably another nerdy goal...I should have saved this until I did something more exciting, but alas, I am what I am :)

With the Quicken software program I asked for as a birthday gift, I was able to set up a personal accounting system that is extremely functional and easy to use! I will share my embarrassing monthly spending with the hopes that I'm able to cut back in a few of the areas, mainly orange and yellow, which technically are all "shopping." Yes. I have a problem. I admit it.

#39 "finish all seasons of the X-Files in order"

I have to say I'm proud. Not only did I watch every single episode of the show, but I also filled in the two movies in their correct places in the story line.  For those of you keeping track at home, that's 150.75 hours spent staring into my computer screen while life passed me by (to be fair, though, most of this took place between the hours of 12 and 5 AM while the rest of the world slept).

Although I spent seasons 8 & 9 hating Chris Carter and David Duchovny for what they were doing to the show, the series finale made those agonizing seasons worth it, and ultimately, Agents Doggett and Reyes added some missing element to the show. If I could make one wish for anything right now, it would probably be for one more movie to tie up the loose ends, have Mulder and Scully see William again, and put the alien colonization plans to death once and for all.  To quote Mulder's closing line from the series, "maybe there's hope."

Until then, I will continue to obsess about the show, probably start watching it from the beginning again, and enjoy the theme music whenever my cell phone rings (yes, this is my ring tone).

Hopefully the next goal I cross off my list will make me seem like less of a nerd! At least, thats what
I want to believe! :)
