#19 "take a just-for-fun class"

When I wrote this on the list, I had in mind that it would be some kind of fitness class, but really didn't think I'd actually have fun doing it.  Much to my surprise, the Zumba class I took on Sunday, February 6 was about the most entertaining exercise I've ever had.  My Aunt Kim and I had been talking about taking a Zumba class for a while and she decided spur of the moment to go to one Sunday afternoon.  She called me to beg me to come along, and I reluctantly changed out of my "pig woman clothes" (term my mother coined for the sweats we throw on on Sundays after church) and into a cute workout outfit I'd bought on Saturday from Target. (By the way, if you have trouble with Yoga pants being too long for you, you've got to get a pair of these in a short size!)

We were told the class was being held at Stardust Skate Center, so we drove as fast as we could to make it over to North Charleston before the 3:30 class started. When we got there, we were disappointed to be told there was no such class going on there. However, we were not going to be deterred from our exercise!  We jumped on her iPhone to find another class going on near us on Sunday afternoons. To find a class near you, all you have to do is go to zumba.com and search for classes near you. I couldn't believe how many classes we have going on around us every day and night of the week, and apparently, all the classes are only FIVE dollars each!

We quickly found one at the Northwoods Park on Greenridge Road starting at 4:00 and headed over. After sitting in the car for 15 minutes like dorks trying to  make sure that we were in the right place, we decided that the other women going in looked like they were wearing "Zumba clothes." The lady in the car next to us was smoking a cigarette in what appeared to be "Zumba clothes" so this threw us off because SURELY she doesn't care about her health if she's smoking, but we were wrong about that and she soon joined us in our class.

There were about 15 other women taking the class and it was SO much fun! We caught the giggles a few times just because we looked a little ridiculous in the floor-to-ceiling mirrors and kept missing the steps, but I think with a little practice we could be Zumba Queens. We're going to try another class on Saturday morning, and I'm going to attempt to drag my mother along for my own entertainment. I have a feeling we might laugh so hard at her that we get thrown out but we will see...

All in all, I'd say it was a successful list-crossing-off experience that has inspired me to get in better shape and introduced me to a new activity that I love!
